Nkana Church Construction
Nkana, Nyarurema Parish, Rwanda
Building a church for the faithful of Nkana, a remote outstation of Nyarurema Parish near the Uganda border, so the elderly and sick no longer have to walk long distances to worship.
Nkana is one of seven outstations of Nyarurema Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Byumba, Rwanda. The parish, founded in 1986 and located near the border with Uganda, serves more than 24,000 Catholic Christians across 130 basic ecclesial communities.
Nkana is very far from the main parish church. Its Christians had to walk a long distance to reach the nearest church, a real hardship for the elderly and the sick. The people of Nkana were committed to contributing, but poverty made it impossible to build alone.
The Project
At the request of Msgr. Patrick Irankunda, Parish Priest of Nyarurema, The Little Dreams set out to help fund the construction of the Nkana church and a sanitary block, with a total project cost of $39,833 USD.
Progress
The photos below follow the church from its brick walls and steel roof frame to the finished building with its red roof and cross. Thank you to every donor who made this possible!
